"Jeff Bonde has a tremendous eye Links of London Bangles babies," Brown said. "You can't believe what he can do with a limited amount of money."Growing up on the backstretch, Bonde could pick out horses with potential before they set foot on a racetrack. That Links of London Lolly Pop Charm is his key to success. Besides training 25 thoroughbreds, Bonde is part- owner of a few standardbreds at Cal Expo with his friend Allen Aldrich.

"That's just for fun," Bonde said. KNBR Links of London M Charm host Sam Spear has known Bonde for more than 30 years. "Jeff is very low key," Spear said. "He's very amiable, outgoing, just an all-around nice guy. "His father (Duke Bonde) is in the (International) Links of London Mobile Charm Hall of Fame. Jeff started out horseshoeing but after six months decided it was too hard and became a trainer."

Said Bonde, "We came from racetrack people. Horses were all part of our lives." Bonde, a single father with four sons age 10 to 17, had his Links of London N Charm year in 2010. Star sprinter Smiling Tiger, who will race on the Derby undercard, gave the trainer his first Grade I wins.Among the buildings people can tour is the Eichert House, 527 N. Barstow St., a Queen Anne-style home built in 1897 for the sister of a local brewer.
