The vintage prom dress of 2010 may trend toward “bold.” Saturday is the Andover High School prom, an annual rite of passage – and flight of money – for juniors and seniors. But sophomores at the school have helped to reduce the cost for some teens by reaching out to local businesses. Then, for girls, there’s the cost of a simple prom dress a manicure, hair styling, accessories, tanning and a seat in the Hummer or limo. The guys typically rent tuxedos, buy flowers for their dates, buy the tickets and also chip in for the ride. Set for Saturday, May 15, from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Fern croft in Danvers, the Andover High School prom costs $70 per student.
The event easily costs many students $300, which works out to spending $60 an hour.
