Going for the rounded look with a scalloped lid, the Asus Eee PC 1005PEB definitely looks cool with burnt ochre to burgundy colored lid. While the design is nice and solid, the color alone is enough to set it apart from other netbooks of the same class. The netbook retains many of the design aspects that make the Asus Eee PC lineup so successful including rounded corners and a slightly tapered lid.The Asus Eee PC 1005PEB's keyboard is a bit different with flatter topped keys but the keyboard retains the same look and feel as other Asus Eee PCs. This means that it is definitely comfortable to use, however the right shift key did feel a little off as we ended up pressing the up directional key more often than not. The track-pad was responsive though with raised dots on the surface for a more tactile feel to it.Specification-wise the Asus Eee PC 1005PEB is powered by an Intel N450 processor that also means that it uses an Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics solution. While it has a standard 1GB worth of DDR2 memory it changes the formula somewhat with a larger 250GB hard disk driveAcer Aspire 1620 Series CD DVD Driveand a Windows 7 Starter operating system. The netbook offers a 10.1-inch LED screen with 1024 x 600 pixel resolution along with a new six-cell li-ion battery.While the Intel GMA 3150 can manage smooth 720p HD video the smaller resolution screen means that the window is almost full-screen already. However, the Intel N450 processor is more than ready to handle office applications, Internet browsing, emailing, chatting and multimedia. The speakers are decidedly tinny so it'd be best if you go with some headphones or earphones for a better listening experience. The VGA out port lets you connect to a larger screen while the wireless-n wi-fi offers more range and better transfer speeds. Battery life is where the Asus Eee PC 1005PEB truly excels though as it offers up to 9 hours on a single charge, at least two hours more than similar netbooks in the same class.Overall, the Asus Eee PC 1005PEB is a stand-out netbook with an awesome battery life that can deliver some pretty good performance at the same time. The keyboard and overall design is good while the color alone is enough to turn heads. These features make the netbook great for the mobile exec or student on the move that needs a performance notebook with a little extra battery life and storage space.
